In Australia, it is estimated that 400,000 people live with dementia, and 70% of the diagnosed cases have Alzheimer’s disease (AD)1. With novel advances in diagnosis and management, this webinar brings you an update on Dementia from one of the world's leading specialists in Dementia research and management Professor Colin Masters AO and Cognitive Neurologist & Neuroscientist Dr Trevor Chong. The session is facilitated by Dr Anita Muñoz who is a GP and a Medical Educator teaching general practice registrars in training. Part 1: D is for Detection, Diagnosis and multi-Disciplinary management: An update on Dementia

This educational video provides specialists with an update in dementia detection, diagnosis and multi-disciplinary management. With an ageing population and increasing prevalence of dementia in Australia, it is becoming more urgent that dementia is detected early and that the responsibility for caring for these patients is shared as rationally as possible amongst clinical subgroups, including GPs and allied health practitioners who can collaborate with specialist colleagues. Advances in diagnostic pathways make earlier detection and intervention feasible. Empowering GPs to become more active in an area of aged care previously seen as specialist-only will form a part of future approaches to the disease.

Part 2: Remember me? An update on dementia for GPs, including developments in diagnostics and non-pharmacological management

This educational webinar provides Healthcare Professionals with an update on dementia epidemiology, pathophysiology, advances in diagnosis, and pharmacological as well as non-pharmacological management. The activity aims to improve the ability of GPs to detect and diagnose dementia early, thereby optimising outcomes for patients and their carers. Healthcare Professionals will be armed with the knowledge and tools to facilitate a more proactive approach to non-pharmacological management and support of patients with dementia. The update will include pharmacological treatment options and changes in the regulatory environment that make prescribing less onerous.
