Bloodhound® Technology

Featuring innovative Bloodhound® technology, the cobas m 511 counts and classifies cells using digital multispectral analysis. The cobas m 511 images individual cells directly. Based on these direct images, the Bloodhound® technology counts, analyzes morphology and then classifies cells in the viewing area to provide a standard Complete Blood Count (CBC), five-part differential, and reticulocyte count.

Unique slide preparation designed to provide consistent distribution of cells supporting cell integrity

A consistent volume of blood is printed in a uniform pattern on a slide. The printed slide is then transferred to a staining station where modified Romanowsky stains are applied. Upon staining, the slide is fully prepared for automated digital imaging as the basis for cell counting, classification and digital morphology.

 

 

Digital multispectral imaging utilized for cell counting and classification

Low-magnification multispectral imaging is first applied to the slide, digitally identifying and counting the RBCs, WBCs and platelets. In addition, randomized locations of 600–700 WBCs are recorded for the differential.

High-magnification multispectral imaging is then applied to the slide to perform the digital differential, classifying the WBCs into 5 normal groups. Unclassified cells are flagged and presented for user review. Red blood cells are analyzed for volume and hemoglobin content. Platelets are analyzed for volume. Reticulocytes, when ordered, are identified and counted on a second slide.1
