Current landscape in Anticoagulation Management and long-term therapy with Vitamin K Antagonists (VKAs)

Dr. Melchior Nierman
Anticoagulation: from today to the future

In the words of Dr. Melchior Nierman, we’re living in an epidemic of bad lifestyles. In this landscape of rising illness, our approach to thrombosis and the prevention of strokes need our attention.

We’re thrilled that for 2024’s first ASPIRE webinar, we welcomed thrombosis expert Dr. Nierman to share his perspective of the present and future of thrombosis management.

Dr. Nierman begins this webinar with an introduction to thrombosis and the different lines of available treatment, before diving into Vitamin K Antagonists (VKAs). He first explores how they work, their therapeutic ranges, the importance of monitoring INR, and factors that impact efficacy. Then he compares VKAs to the most popular treatment for atrial fibrillation and venous thrombosis: DOACs.

The real value of this webinar comes through Dr. Nierman’s presentation of the FRAIL-AF study that he was pivotal in conducting. His findings about the safety of switching elderly patients away from VKAs in the Netherlands and the implications for the future of thrombosis care are truly insightful.

This lunch break-friendly webinar will surely enrich your understanding of Anticoagulation Management, and we hope you enjoy.
