Meet the speakers

Dr. Pimpun Kitpoka, MD

Pimpun Kitpoka, MD,

Director of Blood Bank, Faculty of Medicine, Ramathibodi Hospital, Mahidol University, Bangkok, Thailand

Dr. Kitpoka has her Diploma from the Thai Board of Transfusion Medicine and is currently an associate professor in the faculty of medicine at Mahidol University and Blood Bank director at Ramathibodi Hospital, Bangkok, Thailand. She has been employed more than 30 years as a lecturer in clinical pathology and transfusion medicine for medical students. She also directs postgraduate students in MSc, PhD and residency training in clinical pathology, transfusion medicine and hematology. She is a committee member of the Royal Pathology Society of Thailand, Thai Society of Clinical Pathology, National Blood Center of the Thai Red Cross and the President of the Thai Board Training and Examination for residency training in transfusion medicine. Dr. Kitpoka has authored publications specializing in immunohematology, infectious marker screening and clinical practice in transfusion medicine.

Senior consultant for Hematology and Blood Transfusion, at the Military Medical Service of the Army of the Czech Republic.

Graduated from Charles University in Prague, Faculty of Pediatrics, in 1986, where he worked as a pediatrician for four years.

After post-graduate study, he started his professional career in hematology and blood transfusion service. The Department of Hematology and blood transfusion Military University Hospital Prague is the leading facility in the Czech Republic in implementation of NAT testing into routine, not only for blood borne infections, but also for blood group genotyping.

In 1996, Dr. Bohonĕk joined the Army of the Czech Republic. He was deployed on two field missions - 2003 in Iraq with the 7th Field Hospital of the ACR, and 2005/6 in Pakistan with the international NATO humanitarian mission, Winter Race.

He has published in the Czech Republic as well as in international journals on many topics concerning blood transfusion medicine, and has had numerous talks and posters at various congresses, both at home and abroad. His main scientific interest lies in cryopreservation of blood and in issues associated with military blood transfusion service and clinical transfusion medicine and in the field of hemostatic resuscitation during massive bleeding and implementation of whole blood transfusion in both civiliand and military settings.

Dr. Bohonĕk is the guarantor in the field of hematology and blood transfusion and the university lecturer at The Faculty of Biomedical Engineering Czech Technical University Prague. He is long-term member of the board of Society for Transfusion Medicine of the Czech Medical Society, serving as its chairman from 2018-2022, president of  the Society of Military Medicine of the Czech Medical Society, member of the International Society of Blood Transfusion, member of Association for the Advancement of Blood and Biotherapies and member of the working group Blood Panel of COMEDS NATO.

Dr. Galel received her MD degree from Harvard Medical School, and completed clinical training in pediatrics, pediatric hematology/oncology, and transfusion medicine at Stanford University.  Following her training she was hired onto the faculty of the Stanford University School of Medicine where she served for many years as medical director of the blood donor center and donor testing laboratory, and as associate director of the Stanford Hospital transfusion service.  Dr. Galel joined Roche Diagnostics in 2014 and continues as an emeritus faculty of Stanford University.  Dr. Galel has authored numerous manuscripts and book chapters on transfusion medicine and donor infectious disease screening.  Dr. Galel is currently the chair of the AABB Blood Banks and Transfusion Service Standards committee, and a member of the AABB Transfusion-Transmitted Diseases Committee, the ISBT working party for Transfusion Transmitted Infectious Diseases, and the US Health and Human Services Advisory Committee on Blood and Tissue Safety and Availability.
