DISCOVERY tissue research

Solving tomorrow’s problems, today.

Enabling flexibility to drive innovation with a solution developed for researchers, by researchers

Bringing flexible capabilities to support tissue research and development of diagnostics, Roche’s DISCOVERY staining platform provides a solution for scientists and research professionals who demand more than what conventional immunohistochemistry (IHC) and in situ hybridization (ISH) platforms have to offer.

The key components of the DISCOVERY tissue research solution are:

  • DISCOVERY ULTRA instrument: Automated multiplex IHC/ISH staining
  • Universal Software: Enables the flexibility to design custom staining protocols on the DISCOVERY ULTRA
  • Reagents: Access to a wide range of ready-to-use antibodies, chromogens, and fluorophores, to support diverse IHC and ISH tissue staining applications

The DISCOVERY ULTRA is an open platform allowing access to third-party or custom reagents via user-fillable dispensers and the Universal Software. The expansive potential is available out of the box, tackling the most difficult staining challenges and enabling:

  • Automated workflow efficiency
  • More experiments simultaneously
  • Independent temperature control
  • Manual touchpoints when desired

Multiplexing and the next generation of scientific insight in pathology

Multiplex immunohistochemistry (mIHC) enables the detection of multiple biomarker antigens on the same tissue section. Compared to single stains, simultaneous biomarker detection enables a greater understanding of the bio-spatial signatures critical to a holistic understanding of biology and new foundations in the clinical presentation of disease. The scientific questions that can be addressed by mIHC and multiplexing ISH are many and span clinical, translational, and basic research applications.
