Oncology treatment is evolving. In the current era of precision medicine, insights into a tumor's DNA can be used to personalise treatment tailored to its unique genomic profile.1,2
Roche Foundation Medicine (Foundation Medicine) is transforming cancer care by providing patients, physicians and researchers with a deep understanding of the genomic mutations that drive cancer.3–10
Comprehensive genomic profiling broadly analyses the tumour genome with a single test. Using a sample of tumour tissue or blood, Foundation Medicine tests search for alterations in over 300 cancer-related genes.3–9
There are three Foundation Medicine comprehensive genomic profiles available to choose from. Physicians and researchers determine the most suitable profile for their patients' cancer type.3–5
CGP services are discussed between physicians and patients to determine suitability based on the type and stage of cancer.
The physician orders the chosen CGP profile online.
Upon completing the order, payers receive an email from Foundation Medicine to make payment for the CGP service.
Pathology prepares a sample of tumour tissue or blood, which is shipped to the Foundation Medicine analysis lab.
Upon receiving the patient specimen, genetic information (DNA or RNA) is analysed and profiled.
A genomic profiling report is generated and provided to the ordering physician. Healthcare professionals use the profiling report to assist in creating treatment plans for their patients.
* Please note that the likelihood of a Foundation Medicine profile identifying a genomic alteration to assist in making treatment decisions may vary depending on factors such as tumour type and sample quality. It is recommended that you consult with your doctor to determine your suitability for a Foundation Medicine Test.
