The type of specimen to be used includes serum, plasma, urine, whole blood, cerebrospinal fluid, supernatant, oral fluid, hemolysate, amniotic fluid and processed stool, that are used for detecting and/or measuring analytes covered by the specific assays. The cobas® 8000 modular analyser series is a scalable, modular based clinical chemistry and immunochemistry serum work area solution for high throughput laboratories. The system consists of a core unit, an ISE module and up to 4 analytical modules.
The core unit is always on the left side of the instrument and it is the loading and unloading point for samples, achieving a throughput of up to 1000 samples/hour. It features a dedicated STAT port for easy prioritisation of emergency samples and allows for a bidirectional connectivity to pre-analytics.
ISE module
The cobas® ISE module measures the concentration of sodium (Na+), potassium (K+) and chloride (Cl-). It is available in two configurations with identical footprint but different throughout: 900 or 1,800 tests/hour.
Analytical modules
One configuration of the cobas® 8000 modular analyser series can consist of one up to four analytical modules. Clinical chemistry modules include a high volume throughput clinical chemistry module (cobas c 702 module, cobas c 701 module), a mid-volume throughput clinical chemistry module (cobas c 502 module). Immunochemistry modules include the high throughput immunochemistry module (cobas e 801 module) and a mid-volume throughput immunochemistry module (cobas e 602 module). The modular and scalable design of cobas® 8000 modular analyser series offers more than 440 configurations with many choices to tailor solutions to individual laboratory needs, now and in the future.
Module sample buffer
A Module sample buffer (MSB) is attached to the left of each cobas c module and of each cobas e module. The MSBs serve as a buffering rack and can deliver sample racks to any module at any time. The MSBs allow for efficient sample transport and management across the analyser.
The cobase 801 module is a high throughput immunochemistry module that performs a broad range of heterogeneous immunoassay tests using the highly innovative and patented ElectroChemiLuminescence (ECL) technology. cobas e 801 is the latest addition to the cobas®8000 modular analyser series

The cobas c 702 module is a high throughput clinical chemistry module that performs photometric assay tests for a wide range of analytes. It is equipped with a reagent manager, which allows for automatic reagent cassette decapping and loading/unloading during operation. With a throughput of up to 2000 tests/hour the cobas c 702 module has the capacity to handle heavy workloads and ensure efficiency in your lab.
