Viral hepatitis is a global burden. In particular, infection with hepatitis B virus (HBV) or hepatitis C virus (HCV) leads to chronic liver disease including fibrosis, cirrhosis and eventually hepatocellular carcinoma (liver cancer) in hundreds of millions of people.1 According to WHO HBV and HCV infections cause approximately 80% of all liver cancer related deaths and kill approximately 1.4 million people every year.2 Most of those infected are undiagnosed, thereby increasing the risk of developing severe liver disease and transmitting the virus to others.

Screening programs require efficient laboratory diagnostic systems to handle large numbers of samples and provide accurate and reliable test results.
