Embracing sustainability through innovative packaging solutions

Notice something different about our packaging?

At Roche, sustainability is not just a word, it's our unwavering commitment to a brighter future for all. We’re proud to introduce you to our new sustainable packaging, demonstrating our dedication to environmental stewardship and corporate responsibility. Driven by our dedication to meeting customer expectations, complying with the latest packaging regulations, and supporting Roche's 10-year ambition for 2029, we are excited to unveil our innovative sustainable packaging initiative. This launch also aligns with our sustainability targets set by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi).

We are transitioning to eco-friendly materials by moving from bleached white cardboard to fully recyclable brown cardboard, incorporating paper-based inlays, and utilizing foam with up to 100% recycled content. Additionally, we are adopting water-based inks in place of traditional printing materials to further our sustainable packaging efforts. In addition to prioritising renewable materials, we’re also focusing on enhancing usability for reuse and recycling, as well as volume and parts reduction. We are excited to share that our Tucson operations team has recently adopted more sustainable packaging for large tissue diagnostic systems, widely used by hospitals and laboratories. This redesigned packaging uses 40% fewer raw materials, significantly reducing both its weight and the carbon footprint during transportation.1 The success of this initiative, along with other pilot projects, has been instrumental in shaping our sustainable packaging strategy, which we plan to implement across all Roche Diagnostic packaging soon.

Join us on this journey of true sustainability, where we aim to meet the needs of the present, without compromising the ability of future generations to meet theirs. If you are seeking further information on our sustainable commitments here at Roche, please click here.
