ACT Ecolabels: Solving for transparency in sustainability

• ACT Ecolabels are now available across Roche’s PCR-based cobas® molecular reagents and assays used with the cobas® 5800/6800/8800 and cobas® liat systems, building on the LightCycler® PRO achievement as the first IVD laboratory equipment to earn this certification

Roche Diagnostics has taken a significant step forward in product sustainability by introducing ACT Ecolabels for its PCR-based, cobas® molecular reagents & assays portfolio, used on cobas® 5800/6800/8800 systems, and the cobas® liat system and assay portfolio. This initiative builds on the success of the LightCycler® PRO, which was the first IVD laboratory equipment to achieve this recognition.

The ACT Ecolabel uses a science-based, weighted scoring system for each product, factoring in details around energy use, materials, chemical hazards, and responsible end-of-life disposal options—plus an evaluation of the manufacturing facility and company commitments to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. ACT-labeled products are published by My Green Lab, a non-profit organization dedicated to creating a global culture of sustainability in science, and scoring is independently audited by Verico. Each product is issued a separate label, with different measurement scoring, depending on factors specific to the EMEA, US, and UK markets.

By promoting greener choices for customers’ purchasing decisions, the ACT Ecolabel supports laboratories in reducing their overall environmental footprint and demonstrates Roche’s overall dedication and commitment to protecting our planet’s resources, now and for future generations.
