The test utilizes amplification of target DNA by RT-PCR and nucleic acid hybridization for the detection of Salmonella spp., Yersinia enterocolitica/pseudotuberculosis, Campylobacter spp. and Shigella spp. DNA. The study demonstrates that the UC-TIB- Gastro-Bac Y1 detects at least 130 genome equivalent copies or less per mL for Salmonella spp., 200 copies or less per mL for Yersinia enterocolitica/pseudotuberculosis, 50 copies or less per mL for Campylobacter spp. and 75 copies or less per mL for Shigella spp., determined by LOGIT analysis with a hit rate of 95 %. In rare cases gastroenteritis can be caused by Campylobacter fetus or Campylobacter ureolyticus, these Campylobacter species will not be detected! en
