Sustainability Roadmap
Through three pillars, we take a holistic approach to sustainable healthcare innovation.

Solving for Tomorrow:
Tracing the Roadmap
of Sustainability
Sustainability is more than reducing emissions or updating packaging; it is a roadmap for innovation and advancing healthcare around the world. All of this can be achieved without compromising the future of our planet. Through our three pillars of sustainability, Roche takes a holistic approach to driving sustainable healthcare innovation.

Social
For every patient, we must enable the right decision at the right time and for the right value. Social innovation is the behind-the-scenes work Roche is doing to contribute to a better tomorrow for all — from patients to our employees.

Improving access
to healthcare
26.5 million
Women or people with a cervix were tested with Roche’s HPV high-risk testing in 2024.2
One of the first
FDA-approved HPV self-collection solutions was developed by Roche, providing patients with more options.3

Innovative solutions
to advance healthcare
Across areas including:

Roche Near Patient Care testing solutions can empower physicians across point-of-care settings and others, enabling timely treatment decisions.4
Environmental
Our environmental commitment goes beyond emission goals. It involves innovations across the healthcare pipeline, including product stewardship guided by the principle that all stages of a product's lifecycle and every stakeholder should take responsibility for minimizing impacts on people and the environment. By working toward environmental sustainability hand-in-hand, we're solving for a better future — together.

Manufacturing
Roche’s U.S. affiliate campus in Indianapolis:
100%
Operates on 100% renewable energy
28%
Has decreased the environmental impact per employee by 28% since 2019
70%
Has a goal to reduce emissions by 70% by 2029

Packaging
We’re empowering labs to do more with less while working to make packaging more sustainable. In some cases, redesigned packaging can use 40% fewer raw materials.6

Measuring Environmental Impact
We're adding virtual ecolabels to Roche products, such as the LightCycler® PRO System, providing our customers with additional information on environmental impact. With insights like these, we hope to empower our customers to work sustainably and choose products that align with their goals.

Suppliers
Roche expects suppliers to set climate and sustainability targets, including:

Switching to at least 80% renewable power by 20305

Committing to adopting water stewardship standards5

Including green transportation solutions in their core offerings by 20305

Waste management
Roche has adopted principles and practices surrounding waste management aimed at reducing environmental impact. Read our position.

Economical
Ensuring tomorrow’s solutions requires investment. Through intentional partnerships and a focus on solving patients' urgent needs, we can advance healthcare, create jobs and ensure livelihoods.

Investing in the future
Roche is the No.1 R&D investor in healthcare and the market leader in in vitro diagnostics.7
13.2 billion CHF (Swiss francs) are invested each year in R&D.7

Advancing healthcare through technology
Multiplexing, automation, connectivity, digital solutions and integration save time, resources and – in many cases – limited, precious test samples.

Sustainable healthcare
Roche has been ranked one of the most sustainable healthcare companies in the Dow Jones Sustainability Indices for 16 consecutive years (2009-2024).8-9
“As a company that is nearly 130 years old, Roche is always focused on the long term, which includes stewardship of our environment. Sustainability is built into Roche’s business plan.”
Brad Moore, President and CEO, Roche Diagnostics North America
